Art Therapy

What is Creative Arts Therapy?

Creative arts therapy is an experiential psychotherapeutic approach utilising arts modalities within a relationship with a trained therapist, attending to emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual well-being.

The creative process offers the opportunity to assess where you are at in your life now, to explore values and patterns of being, and to make choices around preferred ways of being moving forward.

How does it work?

Engaging in creativity via art therapy can aid recovery. It helps you to express yourself, focus, relax, connect with other people and at times share your story.

Art therapy is the use of creating art and creative processes in a therapeutic setting to express feelings and explore experiences.

You don’t need any art experience to take part. The purpose of art therapy is to provide a safe and supportive space to explore and engage in the creative process.

Creating art can help you to heal because it allows you to express yourself, focusing on your emotions and relaxes you. It also helps you to connect with other people.

We believe in a holistic approach to care and highly value working as part of an interdisciplinary team. Should you or your child benefit from working with other experts or professionals, we will partner with you to make appropriate referrals and to find the resources you may need. If you’re already connected with other supports or organizations, we would love to join your support team and work together.

We recognize that life can be very challenging at times, we cannot always control what happens in life but we can find a sense of empowerment in the way we respond to situations. We honour and validate your journey and experiences and by working together we can explore what your needs are.

We support individuals and families who may have been impacted by anxiety, anger, attachment difficulties, behavioural concerns, depression, domestic violence, developmental challenges, hyperactivity, low self esteem, life transitions, learning difficulties, loss, grief, trauma, separation or divorce, sexual abuse, or substance use.

We provide the following services:

·      Individual art therapy

·      Group art therapy

·      Family art therapy

·      Presentations for professionals

·      Workshops

Why Choose Art Therapy?

  • Creating art to express yourself can be self-revealing and sometimes it’s just as painful as talking. So it’s perfectly okay to feel like you’re not ready for it yet. We’ll take it at a pace that’s right for you.

  • Fighting anxiety can be exhausting both mentally and physically. Art therapy can be used to relax your mind and body.

  • Art therapy provides a healthy channel to let go of emotions that cannot be expressed with words.

  • Through art, we’re able to channel emotions. Helping us to express anger in a way that is healing rather than damaging.

  • If you choose to do art therapy in a group setting, it can be a nice way to build healthy connections with other people. This can be extremely beneficial if you are fighting depression.

  • We support individuals and families who may have been impacted by anxiety, anger, attachment difficulties, behavioural concerns, depression, domestic violence, developmental challenges, hyperactivity, low self esteem, life transitions, learning difficulties, loss, grief, trauma, separation or divorce, sexual abuse, or substance use.
